No app, no signal. It is a game, a bit of fun for a bench in the canteen, not a prediction of anything real. Here is the full method, then a worked example you can check against. ## What you need - The two names, usually first names (or full names, but agree before you start). - A pen and paper. - One rule agreed up front: spellings are used exactly as written, lowercase or uppercase does not matter. ## Step 1: Write both names Write the first name on one line and the second below it. Use the spelling people actually use. If one friend writes "Pooja" and another writes "Puja", you will get different answers, and that is normal for this game. ## Step 2: Cross out the shared letters Take the first letter of the first name. Look for the same letter in the second name. If it is there, strike it out in both names. Then move to the next letter. One strike removes one letter from each name. If a letter appears twice in one name and once in the other, only one copy gets crossed out in each, so the second copy stays. ## Step 3: Count what is left Add up all the letters that are not struck out, across both names. Call this number N. This is the only number the rest of the game cares about. The names themselves are done with. ## Step 4: Write F L A M E S Write the six letters in a row: F, L, A, M, E, S. They stand for Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies and Siblings. You can read what each one means in our guide to the [FLAMES full form](/guides/flames-full-form-and-what-each-letter-means). ## Step 5: Count around and cross letters out Start at F and count to N, moving along the row. When your count reaches N, strike out the letter you landed on. If you run off the end of the row, loop back to F and keep counting. Then start counting again from the next letter that is still alive, and count N again. Strike out that letter. Keep going until only one letter stands. That letter is the verdict. ## A worked example: Rahul and Priya Names: RAHUL and PRIYA. 1. R is in both names. Strike R from each. 2. A is in both names. Strike A from each. 3. H, U, L are not in PRIYA. P, I, Y are not in RAHUL. Nothing else matches. Letters left: H, U, L, P, I, Y. That is N = 6. Now count 6 around F L A M E S: - Round 1, start at F: F1 L2 A3 M4 E5 S6. S is struck. Left: F L A M E. - Round 2, start at F again: F1 L2 A3 M4 E5 F6. F is struck. Left: L A M E. - Round 3, start at L: L1 A2 M3 E4 L5 A6. A is struck. Left: L M E. - Round 4, start at M: M1 E2 L3 M4 E5 L6. L is struck. Left: M E. - Round 5, start at M: M1 E2 M3 E4 M5 E6. E is struck. Left: M. M stands for Marriage, so the game says Marriage. The order of strikes is S, F, A, L, E, which is exactly what our tool shows letter by letter if you type Rahul and Priya at the [home page](/). ## Common mistakes **Striking a letter twice.** Each strike cancels one letter in each name, not one in total. Strike pairs, not singles. **Forgetting where to restart.** After a strike, the next count begins at the letter right after the one you removed, not back at F. This is the most common reason two friends get different answers for the same names. **Counting the struck letter again.** Once a letter is out, skip over it. Do not count it. **Mixing spellings.** "Ananya" and "Anannya" are different inputs. Decide the spelling first. **Counting spaces.** Spaces and hyphens are not letters. Leave them out. ## If N is 1 or very large If N is 1, the first letter you count lands on is struck each time, so F goes, then L, A, M and E, and S survives. If N is large, the count simply loops round the row several times. To save effort, with k letters left you only need to count N mod k steps, treating 0 as k. ## Why does this feel like it works? The result depends on one number, N, and on how the row of six letters gets eaten. Small changes in spelling move N by one or two, and that is enough to change the result completely. That is why the game feels uncannily personal and why trying a nickname instead of a full name gives a whole new answer. It is a lucky-dip, not a measure of feelings. See [is the FLAMES calculator real or fake](/guides/is-the-flames-calculator-real-or-fake) for the honest answer. ## Play it and share it If paper feels slow, the [name game calculator](/) does the same strikes in seconds and shows each cross-out, so you can check your own paper work. There is also a [love calculator by name](/name-game-love-calculator-by-name) that works differently, with a percentage instead of a letter, and a [friendship calculator by name](/name-game-friendship-calculator-by-name). Whatever result you get, it is a game. Laugh at it, screenshot it, send it to the group chat, and move on. --- # FLAMES full form and what each letter means in the name game URL: https://theflamesgame.com/guides/flames-full-form-and-what-each-letter-means Updated: 2026-10-27 In the school-bench name game, FLAMES is an acronym with six letters, each standing for a relationship. The full form is Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings. It is a playground game, not a test of anything real, and the name has nothing to do with the hockey team of the same spelling. ## The six letters | Letter | Stands for | What the game means by it | |---|---|---| | F | Friends | Easy company, shared jokes, no pressure | | L | Lovers | Romantic spark, the one everyone screenshots | | A | Affection | Warm and caring, softer than a crush | | M | Marriage | The "settle down" result, usually read as a joke | | E | Enemies | Clash of personalities, banter or rivalry | | S | Siblings | Like family, brother-sister energy | ## F is for Friends You get on. This is the result most pairs of classmates land on, and honestly it is the best outcome for a pair who sit together every day. If you wanted something else, remember that the friend who turns up with notes before an exam is a result worth having. Try the [Friends result page](/flames-meaning-friends) for more. ## L is for Lovers The headline letter. It is the one people hope for and the one that goes in the story. Read it as a laugh, because in the game it is just where the count happened to stop. The [Lovers page](/flames-meaning-lovers) explains how this result lands. ## A is for Affection Often misread. Affection means care and fondness, the kind of closeness that sits between friends and something more. In a group chat it is the "aww" result. See the [Affection page](/flames-meaning-affection). ## M is for Marriage Everyone laughs at this one, and nobody should plan a wedding around it. It is the rarest crowd-pleaser, so it travels well as a share card. More on the [Marriage page](/flames-meaning-marriage). ## E is for Enemies Do not panic. Enemies in this game is closer to "you two argue about everything". Teasing pairs and rival toppers get it all the time. Read the [Enemies page](/flames-meaning-enemies). ## S is for Siblings Siblings means you are more like family than a couple. Brother-sister energy, in the game's words. It is the result that makes people say "bhai" and move on. Here is the [Siblings page](/flames-meaning-siblings). ## Where does the game come from? The exact origin is not documented, and we will not pretend otherwise. It is a pen-and-paper game passed along in schools, mostly across South Asia and the UK, where classmates played it in notebooks, on desks and at the back of the bus. The version most Indian students know is the one here: strike shared letters, count the rest, cycle the six letters. The paper method is in [how to play FLAMES step by step](/guides/how-to-play-flames-step-by-step-on-paper). ## Why the order is F L A M E S The six letters are always written in the same order. The order matters, because the count walks along it and strikes letters out. Rearranging the letters would give different results for the same names, so the traditional order is kept: F, L, A, M, E, S. A common memory trick is to say "Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings" as one line until it sticks. ## How the verdict is picked You do not choose a letter. Two names go in, the letters they share get crossed out, and the number of letters left is used to eat through F-L-A-M-E-S one by one until a single letter is left. A different spelling or a nickname changes that number and so changes the answer, which is why the game feels personal even though it is just arithmetic on spelling. That also means it cannot know anything about you. See [is the FLAMES calculator real or fake](/guides/is-the-flames-calculator-real-or-fake). ## Variants you may meet Some versions swap S for "Sweethearts" or "Soulmates", or E for "Engaged". Another version has L stand for "Love" and A for "Attraction". These are playground edits. The classic reading above is the one used on this site, so your result matches what you would get on paper. ## Try it on two names Type two names into the [name game calculator](/) and you will see each letter struck out in order, then the verdict as a card you can share. If you prefer a number to a letter, try the [love calculator by name](/name-game-love-calculator-by-name) too. Both are games, made for laughing at with friends. --- # Is the FLAMES love calculator real or fake? URL: https://theflamesgame.com/guides/is-the-flames-calculator-real-or-fake Updated: 2026-10-27 Short answer: the calculator is real, the prediction is not. It does a genuine, repeatable calculation on the letters of two names. It cannot tell you whether a crush likes you, whether you will marry, or whether a friendship will last. It is a game. ## What "real" can mean People asking this question usually mean one of three things. **Does it actually calculate something?** Yes. The method is fixed: strike shared letters, count what is left, walk that count around F-L-A-M-E-S. Give it the same two names and you get the same answer every time, on paper or on a site. **Is the result based on my situation?** No. The only inputs are letters. Nothing about your age, your history or your feelings goes in. **Can it predict the future?** No. Nothing in the method links spelling to relationships. If a result matches your life, that is a coincidence, and the next pair of names will not. ## Why it feels accurate Several things make a coin-flip feel personal. - You pick names you already care about, so you notice the result. - Six outcomes cover most real relationships, so one of them usually "fits". - You remember hits and forget misses. Nobody screenshots the time it said Siblings for a crush and moved on. - A vague label like Affection or Friends is easy to read into. This is the same reason horoscopes feel right. It is not a flaw in the game. It is how people read results. ## How to tell a fair FLAMES calculator from a rigged one Fair means checkable. You should be able to confirm the answer yourself in two minutes. 1. Take a pair like Rahul and Priya. Strike R and A, leaving 6 letters. 2. Count 6 around F-L-A-M-E-S by hand. The order of strikes is S, F, A, L, E and the survivor is M. 3. Type the same names in the calculator. If it shows Marriage, the maths matches. Our worked example is in [how to play FLAMES step by step](/guides/how-to-play-flames-step-by-step-on-paper). A site that gives you only a final line and never shows what was struck cannot be checked. A site where changing a name does nothing, or where the result is always a flattering one, is rigged for engagement. See [why a love calculator always gives 100](/guides/why-a-love-calculator-always-gives-100). ## What this site does differently - It shows every strike, letter by letter, so you can follow the count. - It states plainly that it is a game. - There are no ads and no login. - The same two names always give the same verdict. You can test that yourself on the [name game calculator](/). ## What it should never be used for Do not use any name game to decide anything that matters: whether to ask someone out, whether to end a friendship, whether to believe someone likes you. A result of Enemies does not mean someone dislikes you, and a result of Lovers does not mean they like you. If you want to know how someone feels, ask them, or watch how they treat you on ordinary days. ## Is the love percentage real too? The percentage tool works the same way. It counts the letters L, O, V, E and S in both names and adds neighbouring numbers until two digits remain. That is real arithmetic and gives a repeatable number, but again it measures spelling, not love. The details are in [how the love percentage is calculated by name](/guides/how-the-love-percentage-is-calculated-by-name), and you can try the [love calculator by name](/name-game-love-calculator-by-name). ## Does it matter if the names are nicknames? Yes, a lot. Rahul and Rahu are different inputs. So are Priya and Pri. That sensitivity is the clearest proof that the answer comes from spelling, not from you. Try three versions of the same name and watch the verdict change. That is a good way to show a friend it is a game. ## So is it fake? Not in the sense of being a hoax: the maths is real and open. It is fake only if someone presents it as a prediction. Treated as a game, it does its job, which is to make a group chat laugh. Treated as a verdict on your life, it is wrong every time, even when it happens to be right. --- # FLAMES name game in Hindi: kaise khelein URL: https://theflamesgame.com/guides/flames-game-in-hindi-kaise-khelein Updated: 2026-10-27 FLAMES **Step 4: F L A M E S लिखें। बचे अक्षर: H, U, L और P, I, Y। यानी N = 6। अब F L A M E S पर 6 गिनें: - पहला round (F से): F1 L2 A3 M4 E5 S6, तो S कटा। बचे: F L A M E। बचे: L A M E। पूरी paper वाली विधि अंग्रेज़ी में [how to play FLAMES step by step](/guides/how-to-play-flames-step-by-step-on-paper) में भी है। इसके बारे में सीधी बात [is the FLAMES calculator real or fake](/guides/is-the-flames-calculator-real-or-fake) में पढ़ें। तरीका [how the love percentage is calculated](/guides/how-the-love-percentage-is-calculated-by-name) में दिया है। --- # How the love percentage is calculated from two names URL: https://theflamesgame.com/guides/how-the-love-percentage-is-calculated-by-name Updated: 2026-10-27 The love percentage on this site is a letter count, nothing more. It is a game that turns two names into a number, and the number says nothing about real feelings. This guide shows exactly how the number is made, so you can check it with a pen. ## The method in five steps 1. Write both names together, for example RAHUL and PRIYA. 2. Count how many times each of the letters L, O, V, E, S appears across both names. 3. Write the five counts in a row, in the order L, O, V, E, S. 4. Add each pair of neighbours to make a new row one number shorter. If a sum is more than 9, keep only the last digit. 5. Repeat until two digits are left. Those two digits are the percentage. The word LOVES is the reason the letters are L, O, V, E and S. ## Example 1: Rahul and Priya RAHUL has one L. PRIYA has none of the five letters. Counts: L=1, O=0, V=0, E=0, S=0. - Row: 1 0 0 0 0 - Add neighbours: 1 0 0 0 - Again: 1 0 0 - Again: 1 0 Result: 10. A low score, because the names share almost none of the LOVES letters. ## Example 2: Priya and Lovely PRIYA has none. LOVELY has two Ls, one O, one V, one E and no S. Counts: L=2, O=1, V=1, E=1, S=0. - Row: 2 1 1 1 0 - Add neighbours: 3 2 2 1 - Again: 5 4 3 - Again: 9 7 Result: 97. The names are stuffed with LOVES letters, so the number is high. ## Why a carry digit is dropped If two neighbours add to 10 or more, only the ones digit is kept. For example 7 and 8 make 15, which becomes 5. This keeps every row to single digits so the process always ends with two digits. ## Why you never get 100 Because the final row is always two digits, the highest possible number is 99. There is no 100 in this method. A tool that shows 100 for a typed pair is not using it. See [why a love calculator always gives 100](/guides/why-a-love-calculator-always-gives-100). ## What the bands mean The site groups results into bands so that a number comes with a plain label: - [0 to 20](/love-percentage-0-20): barely a spark - [21 to 40](/love-percentage-21-40) - [41 to 60](/love-percentage-41-60) - [61 to 80](/love-percentage-61-80) - [81 to 99](/love-percentage-81-99): a very strong match These labels describe the letter count, nothing else. A low number means the names have few L, O, V, E, S letters, and that is all it means. ## What spelling changes Add a second L, drop an E, swap Priya for Pri: the counts change and so does the percentage. That is the proof that the output depends on spelling. It is a good reason not to take the number seriously. A pair can go from 10 to 97 by choosing a nickname. ## Is this how other calculators do it? Many use some version of the same letter count, and some use other word lists such as TRUE LOVE. Some do not calculate anything and simply return a number picked to flatter you or generated randomly. You can tell by checking whether the same names give the same answer, and whether the working is shown. If you want to test a site, read [is the FLAMES calculator real or fake](/guides/is-the-flames-calculator-real-or-fake). ## How is this different from FLAMES? FLAMES gives a relationship word, such as Friends or Siblings, by striking shared letters. The love percentage gives a number by counting five specific letters. They are two different games with different rules. The [name game calculator](/) does FLAMES, and the [love calculator by name](/name-game-love-calculator-by-name) does the percentage. For a friendship version, the [friendship calculator by name](/name-game-friendship-calculator-by-name) counts the letters of FRIENDS the same way. ## Try it yourself Take any two names, run the five steps on paper, then type the same names into the tool. The numbers should match. If they do, you now know the whole trick. Share the result for the laugh, and remember that it is a game. --- # Why a love calculator always gives 100 percent URL: https://theflamesgame.com/guides/why-a-love-calculator-always-gives-100 Updated: 2026-10-27 If a love calculator keeps telling you 100 percent, it is not finding perfect matches. It is built to flatter. Most of these are marketing toys, and none of them measures love. Here is why they do it and how to tell. ## Why a site would always show 100 **Shares sell.** A 100 percent card goes straight into a story or a group chat. A 23 percent card does not. A site that wants traffic has every reason to hand out high scores. **Nobody complains.** People who get a flattering result feel good and share it. People who get a low one feel bad and leave. Over time, a calculator that shifts results upward gets more visitors. **It is cheaper to fake.** A real calculation takes a rule. A flattering one just returns a number. Some tools use the typed names only to seed a random number, and some skip even that. ## Signs that a calculator is rigged - Different pairs give 100, 99, 98 and 100 again, and the low scores almost never show up. - The result changes when you reload without changing the names. - It shows no working at all, only a big number. - A name like "God" or "Mom" still gets 100. - It asks you to share before it shows the answer. You can test it in a minute. Type the same two names three times. A real calculation gives the same number each time. A random one does not. ## Why a real calculation cannot give 100 On this site the percentage is made by counting the letters L, O, V, E and S and adding neighbours until two digits remain. Two digits means the highest possible answer is 99. So when a tool shows 100 for a pair you typed, it is using something else. The full method is in [how the love percentage is calculated by name](/guides/how-the-love-percentage-is-calculated-by-name), and the page for the [100 percent score](/love-percentage-100) explains the same point. ## Does a lower score mean anything bad? No. A 10 just means the names share few of the letters L, O, V, E and S. A 97 means they share many. Neither says anything about two people. Treat it as a game, the same way you would treat a dice roll at a board game. ## What an honest calculator looks like - It says outright that it is a game. - The same names always give the same answer. - You can reproduce the answer by hand, with the steps shown. - It does not need a login, and it does not nag you to share. - Low scores are shown as readily as high ones. If you want to see the working for a name game, try the [name game calculator](/), which shows each strike, or read [how to play FLAMES step by step](/guides/how-to-play-flames-step-by-step-on-paper) and do it on paper. ## What to do with a low score Laugh, change the spelling, and try again. Then notice what just happened: a nickname moved the number by 50 points. That is the proof that the score depends on letters and not on you. A friend who gets a low score with a crush has lost nothing, because the tool knows nothing. ## What to do with a 100 Enjoy it for what it is. If a tool gave you 100 and it never gives anything else, the compliment is empty. If it came from a method that cannot reach 100, be suspicious of the site instead. ## Should you believe any calculator? Believe the arithmetic, not the prediction. A calculator can truthfully tell you how many Ls two names contain. It cannot tell you whether two people suit each other. For that, there is no shortcut except spending time with the person. For more on this question, read [is the FLAMES calculator real or fake](/guides/is-the-flames-calculator-real-or-fake), or try the [love calculator by name](/name-game-love-calculator-by-name) and see how the working is shown. --- # About The FLAMES Game URL: https://theflamesgame.com/about The FLAMES Game is the school-bench name game, put on a phone. Two names go in, shared letters get struck out, the rest are counted around F L A M E S, and one letter is left. It is a game. It looks at spelling and nothing else, so it cannot tell you what anyone feels. The same names always give the same answer, which is the whole fun of it. We show every strike because that is how the game was always played: in pen, in the margin of a notebook. You can check our answer by hand in a minute. The site has no ads and needs no login. The names you type stay in your browser. If you spot a wrong count, write to us and we will fix it. --- # Data: namePair | label | a | b | result | count | countText | struck | rounds | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Rahul and Priya | Rahul | Priya | Marriage | 6 | 6 | R, A | S, F, A, L, E | | Arjun and Ananya | Arjun | Ananya | Enemies | 7 | 7 | A, N | F, A, S, L, M | | Rohan and Sneha | Rohan | Sneha | Enemies | 4 | 4 | H, A, N | M, L, F, A, S | | Aman and Neha | Aman | Neha | Enemies | 4 | 4 | A, N | M, L, F, A, S | | Karan and Pooja | Karan | Pooja | Affection | 8 | 8 | A | L, E, M, F, S | | Vikram and Divya | Vikram | Divya | Friends | 5 | 5 | V, I, A | E, M, S, L, A | | Aditya and Isha | Aditya | Isha | Marriage | 6 | 6 | A, I | S, F, A, L, E | | Rohit and Kavya | Rohit | Kavya | Lovers | 10 | 10 | none | M, A, S, F, E | | Sahil and Meera | Sahil | Meera | Affection | 8 | 8 | A | L, E, M, F, S | | Nikhil and Riya | Nikhil | Riya | Affection | 8 | 8 | I | L, E, M, F, S | | Priya and Riya | Priya | Riya | Siblings | 1 | 1 | R, I, Y, A | F, L, A, M, E | | Sneha and Neha | Sneha | Neha | Siblings | 1 | 1 | N, E, H, A | F, L, A, M, E | --- # Data: flamesResult | label | letter | meaning | meaningHi | howItLands | a | b | remaining | rounds | source | updatedOn | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Friends | F | The two of you click like mates: easy company, shared jokes, no pressure. | Friends is the letter most often left on a mid-sized count; it is the 'safe' answer. | Rahul | Neha | 5 | E, M, S, L, A | traditional FLAMES rules | 2026-10-27 | | Lovers | L | The game says there is a spark: crush territory. | Lovers survives when the count steps over every other letter first. | Ananya | Vikram | 10 | M, A, S, F, E | traditional FLAMES rules | 2026-10-27 | | Affection | A | Warm, caring, a soft spot for each other, without it being a romance. | Affection lands when the count removes F, L, M, E and S before A. | Rahul | Pooja | 8 | L, E, M, F, S | traditional FLAMES rules | 2026-10-27 | | Marriage | M | The big one.
